Liz Miller CDA has taught decorative painting in the Raleigh, NC area since 1985. She is a member of the Society of Decorative Painters, the Watercolor society or North Carolina, and Capital Area Decorative Artists NC where she has served as chapter president and various other offices. Liz is a DecoArt Helping Artist.

Painting realistic style in acrylics is Liz’s main focus, but she also enjoys creating and experimenting with water colors, pastels, color pencils, and mixed media including watercolor batik.

The natural world and the challenge of creating small slices of nature are her inspirations: the play of light on objects, capturing movement and shape, the mood of a moment. The colors of nature and color combinations of nature are a constant inspiration.

Her weekly classes and workshops are held on line at this time during the COVID precautions but Liz hopes to return to studio classes and workshops in the future. Liz teaches techniques and art theory along with her projects. Increasing painting knowledge and skill are encouraged in the classes.

Liz has her BS in Nursing from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and her Master’s Degree in Dance Therapy from Hunter College in NYC. She has earned CDA, Certified Decorative Artist, status with the Society of Decorative Painting. She feels that sharing her artistic discoveries by teaching others is a natural progression, still providing for the mental and physical health of her students, through the creative art therapy of painting.
